After the release of Iron Man 2 in May 2010, director Jon Favreau chose not to return for a third film. In the film, Stark grapples with the consequences of the events of The Avengers (2012) during a national terrorism campaign on the United States led by the mysterious Mandarin. Casting Director
The production returned to Wilmington in mid-October for additional filming. In early October, scenes were shot at a replica of the Malibu restaurant Neptune's Net, and filming took place on location at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. The following day, production was halted when Downey suffered an ankle injury.
